List of Station Networks in California

This is an effort to create an exhaustive list of all publically available networks of weather/climate stations in California. If you see a network missing, please contact us. Some, but not all, of these networks are featured on the Calclim station map.

Networks with temperature and/or precipitation only:

• Northern California NWS COOP Network: Daily data records begin as early as 1850-present.
• Central California NWS COOP Network: Daily data records begin as early as 1850-present.
• Southern California NWS COOP Network: Daily data records begin as early as 1850-present.
• Hourly Precipitation Data (HPD) Network: Hourly precipitation values begin as early as 1970-present.
• CDEC/California Snow Survey: Hourly data including snow water content and in some cases, precipitation, snow depth, temperature, and other variables. Data available as early as 1980s-present.
• CoCoRaHS: Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network: Daily precipitation measurements made by trained observers. Observations began as early as 1998.

Networks with temperature, precipitation, wind, relative humidity, and more:

• N. California RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Stations): Hourly data records begin as early as mid-1980s to present. Network maintained by NIFC.
• C. California RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Stations): Hourly data records begin as early as mid-1980s to present. Network maintained by NIFC.
• S. California RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Stations): Hourly data records begin as early as mid-1980s to present. Network maintained by NIFC.
• WRCC Station Network: Hourly and 10-minute data from WRCC stations in the Tahoe area, Eastern Sierra, and more. Data available as early as 1990s-present.
• NRCS SNOTEL: Hourly data for stations in the Sierra and southern Cascades for a variety of sensors including snow depth and snow water equivalent. Records began for some variables as early as late 1970s-present.
• California Irrigation Management Info System (CIMIS): Hourly data from stations throughout California as early as 1982-present.
• UC Natural Reserve System: Data from stations in the University of California Reserve network. 10-minute data beginning as early as mid-2000s to present.
• Yosemite National Park Network: Includes some COOP, RAWS, and SNOTEL with addition of CA DWR stations. Hourly data available from DWR stations from as early as mid-1980s to present.
• Santa Catalina Island Network: Hourly data available as early as 2008-present.
• NOAA USRCRN Network: US Climate Reference Network. Hourly data available as early as mid-2000s to present.
• Point Mugu Naval Air Warfare Station Network: Hourly data from Pt. Mugu area and San Miguel Island from as early as mid-1980s to 2011.
• San Diego Gas and Electric Mesonet: Current observations from stations in SDG&E's Mesonet.
